Overweight and Obesity problems are getting worse day by day. Being Overweight or Obesity is excessive fat accumulation which can harm the health of a person. It’s not just related to how you look, but also with increased chances of health risks.

Be the lifestyle of a person he/she leads or the genes of a person, being overweight or obesity is caused due to many more reasons including them. You can become overweight or obese when you eat more calories. A calorie is a unit of energy in the food you eat. Our body needs this energy to function and being active during a day. If you use less energy, then you tend to gain weight with time. Being overweight and obese increases the risk of heart diseases, type 2 diabetes, breathing problems, stroke, and cholesterol problems and also is the cause of some cancers.

How you can know that you fall under overweight or obese.

You can know that you are overweight by knowing the body mass index. Body mass index can be measured by dividing your body weight by the square of your height. For example, if you weigh 70 kg and are 1.75 meters tall, your BMI is 70/ (1.75 x 1.75), which is 22.9. A BMI of 25-29.9 kg/m2 is overweight and beyond it, comes under various categories of obesity.

How to lose weight

Some things you can’t change for example your genes but there are some changes that you can definitely make for example your lifestyle habits. Following the healthy diet plan, doing more exercise and decreasing the inactiveness will be a step forward to losing weight. Some people can also opt for weight losing medication, if changing their lifestyle is not enough to lose their weight.

Losing weight is not a one day process, it takes time. However being motivated to lose weight is really important. With right treatment and motivation it is possible to lose weight.
