As per studies on Ayurvedic science, it is said that an individual experiences good immunity when he undergoes good digestion, has a strong metabolism and experiences quality liver functioning and an endocrine system that is in balance.
A proper diet, adequate sleep, exercising every day, keeping stress in check are all important steps towards achieving a state of balance and thereby supporting our body’s immune functions. There are also numerous Ayurvedic herbs that can be ingested in order to aid the body’s immunity mechanism, for good health. These herbs positively affect certain systems and tissues in the body, one of them being ‘Sitopaladi’.
Sitopaladi is a traditional herb that helps the body improve immunity naturally, in the following ways. The herb’s main function is to restore the natural functions of respiration, digestion, and immunity.
• Helps in removing phlegm from a congested chest
• Improves overall lung health
• Supports proper functioning of the sinuses
• Promotes healthy expectoration
• Keeps the digestive juices flowing, thus improving digestion
• Helps in eliminating excess kapha from the body
How does it Clear Chest Congestion?
Sitopaladi’s expectorant and lubricating properties actually help keep chest congestion in check by smoothly soothing the membranes of the throat and lungs, thus preventing irritation. It helps further by melting thickened mucous in the airways, thereby reducing the presence of phlegm and/or chest congestion. In addition to the above, Sitopaladi also flushes out any excess vata, pitta, and kapha from the body, mainly from the head and chest, thus resulting in healthy and uninterrupted respiration.
In what forms can I add Sitopaladi to my diet? Sitopaladi is available in various forms. You can take ½ to 1 teaspoon (3-5 grams) of churna with water, twice a day after meals. It is also available in powder form. Some findings show that Sitopaladi has a tendency to generate heat in the body and thus must be avoided during the summer. If you need to continuously use Sitopaladi, counterbalance its side effects with a spoonful of honey. However, be sure to add this to your diet only after advice from a seasoned Ayurvedic practitioner. While this herb may work excellently to promote optimum immunity, one should be sure to maintain a lifestyle that is balanced with minimum stress, sufficient sleep, plenty of exercise and a well-balanced diet.
